Pulsed light systems work by emitting pulses on intense light via a prism to the hairy area. Hair containing pigment (melanin) absorbs the light and converts it to heat. This heat is led down through the hair folicle, which is then destroyed and rendered unable to produce new hair. Most hair will not grow back at all while the other hair may grow back thinner and lighter in colour.
The Hairstop Clinic offers treatments which reduce facial vascular blemishes like the fine-thread-like vessels found on cheeks and around the nose. General redness can also be significantly reduced. Results will vary, but most people will see a signfiicant improvement in the condition. Often 4 sessions are needed in an area to obtain optimal results. Treatments should be 4-6 weeks apart. Treatment of the full face is usually performed in stages rather than the whole face in a single session.
There is often significant swelling when facial diffuse redness or blood vessels are treated. This can last for up to 4-5 days before returning to normal. Some erythema or redness may be present and could last for a day or two.
The Hairstop Clinic offers treatments to reduce the colour of pigmented lesions caused by sun damage. A doctor's letter confirming that no skin cancers are present is required before commencing treatment. One treatment is often enough to see excellent results, but 2 or 3 may be needed for optimal results. Treatments are performed are 4 to 6 weekly intervals. Usually sun damage typically seen on backs of hands, forearms, décolletage and face will respond well. Hormonal pigmentation and other pigmentation with a medical cause may not respond, or will have minimal results.
Pigmented areas will darken noticeably within a few hours of treatment. This is expected and a normal reaction. The skin may appear to have a scabby look as if Milo has been sprinkled on the area treated. This may last from 3-4 days to 2-3 weeks.
The blend method of electrolysis combines two types of electrolysis (thermolysis plus galvanic) to make an electrolysis method, which most technicians and experts recommend. Now the most popular method, blend electrolysis kills hairs chemically (just like galvanic electrolysis) but it takes only a few seconds to kill each hair. It works on coarse hairs and fine hairs equally well and is one of the only permanent methods available on the market today to eliminate blonde, white and grey hairs. The blend method of electrolysis is more complicated than either thermolysis electrolysis or galvanic electrolysis, making it especially important to find a very qualified practitioner who has had plenty of training and practice.
During any electrolysis session, a small needle is inserted into your hair follicle and a galvanic current is sent through the needle or probe. The idea is that this process will kill the hair, although in reality you may need to repeat the process to kill a stubborn hair or one that has been aggravated by scar tissue. The current causes mild discomfort during the session, and if you are trying to get rid of hairs on sensitive areas, you may chose to use a topical numbing cream eg. Emla - which is available from your local pharmacy.
