At Hairstop we also offer blend electrolysis for those people with grey and white-blonde hair ensuring your permanent hair removal requirements are always met.

What is Variable Pulse Light (VPL)?

The Variable Pulse Light hair removal system works by emitting pulses of intense light through a glass prism to the area of concern. Each shot of light comprises of a sequence of shorter pulses. These variable pulses ensure controlled absorbtion of the intense light by the targeted structures whilst minimising heating in the surrounding skin and tissues. This means that a wide variety of hair and skin types can be safely treated with optimal results.

How does Pulse Light Therapy work?

Depending on the treatment, the light emitted is absorbed in the specific structure or area in the skin. For hair removal treatments, the light is absorbed by the melanin or pigment in the hair and is heated to a temperature that permanently retards the hair's growth. For skin rejuvenation, various structures in the tissue absorb the light which repairs the damage caused by the aging and the sun. These include redness, age spots, pigment changes, freckles, skin texture and fine lines. Recent studies have also proven phototherapy to improve active acne.

What Areas can be Treated?

At Hairstop, we treat a wide variety of hair affected areas on both men and women. Unwanted hair can be removed from all parts of the body including the chin, cheeks and chest, backs, butts, brows and bikini lines, arms and legs - even in those sensitive areas! All treatments are conducted using this latest clinical technology in a relaxed personal environment.

How many Sessions are Required?

Results will be noticed after a series of treatments over a period of months. It is imperative that the first 4 treatments are booked no longer than 4 weeks apart to guarantee results. This is due to the body's natural hair growth cycle. Other factors affecting treaments include the hair colour and thickness and the amount of pigment in the skin. Certain hairs can also become active due to age and hormonal changes in the body. Generally a minimum of 4-6 treatments may be needed with one or two annual maintenance sessions.

Does it Hurt?

The sensation is that of an elastic band lightly snapped against the skin with a bit of heat. Discomfort is subject to the tolerance of each individual and the concentration of melanin in the skin. The larger square spot size of the appliacator ensures quicker, more efficient and more comfortable treatments than any other method available.

What Should I Expect after the Treatment?

In most cases there are no visible side effects. Therefore the treatments do not interfere with normal activities and appointments can be made during lunch hours! Redness may appear round the hair indicating a successful treatment. The hair is detached from its source of nourishment but still remains in its follicle during the skin renewal process. After 10 days to 2 weeks, depending on the individual, the hair simply falls out. Light exfoliation a few days after the treatment can speed up the falling out of the hairs. Plucking or waxing inbetween treatments is not allowed, however shaving or using hair removal creams is acceptable.
